The traffic on the arterial Western Express Highway on the north bound stretch was badly affected on Monday evening between Kandivali flyover and Santacruz.

According to the police officials the accident took place in the night when one person was knocked down by a dumper. The driver of the dumper ran away from the spot after the accident, police officials told mid day.

The person died at the spot on the north bound stretch of the flyover in Kandivali opposite to the Carnival cinemas on WEH. As the person who died got crushed under the wheels of the dumpers, the police had to divert the traffic via the north bound stretch below the flyover. The police officials told mid day that the person who died is yet to be identified and as of now it's difficult to say whether he was travelling on bike or was a pedestrian.

Since 9.30 pm on Monday the traffic on the north bound stretch of WEH was badly affected and vehicles were moving at snails pace. The person coming from Bandra reclamation and going towards Borivali via WEH were taking more than 90-120 minutes to cover the distance.
