The sound of beating dhols and tasha is synonymous with Ganesh Chaturthi, and just in time for the 10-day festival, Luke Kenny has put a rock spin to the festive music. Written, composed and sung by the actor-musician, Bappa ke Vaastey is an up-tempo 'tapori' pop rock song.

The song is a result of another composition by Kenny, originally created for the 2016 movie Banjo (which starred him, Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri). Ultimately, the song did not feature in the film, and Kenny decided to rework it to create a festive anthem. "Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with much fervour across India, especially Maharashtra. Usually, the songs associated with the festival are either devotional or Bollywood numbers. My idea was to create something that was fun to dance to and relatable to people across communities. For example, if you listen to AR Rahman's songs such as Piya Haji Ali, they are rooted in Islamic culture, but loved by everyone," Kenny tells us.

The instrumentation, production and arrangement of the song has been done by Anurag Shanker, and it has been mixed and mastered by Tejas Narayan.

Kenny, who is currently working on a web series, and a film with Irrfan Khan, feels that though film music today has a wider audience, it has a short life in public memory. As for his favourite Ganpati song, he picks the yesteryears tune, Deva ho Deva.
