According to the police the accused has been identified as Shankar Howal, the deceased is Rahul Howal. Shankar stays with his wife, his son (Rahul) and a widowed daughter at Anand Sarovar society, sector number 6, at Kamothe. The Howals’ other daughter and complainant in the case, Vashali Sagare (36), is married and stays in Kurla. Shankar works as a tailor in Kamothe, while Rahul, who used to work in a private firm in MIDC, was jobless for more than 45 days.

The incident took place on Monday around 3:30 pm, when Rahul came home drunk and started abusing his parents. “He started abusing his parents and caught hold of his father and pushed him against a wall. He then tried to hit him with a grinding stone on his head, but it slipped and hit his shoulder. The father, who was troubled and irritated by the daily harassment by Rahul, grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the neck, head and body. The daughter and parents then took Rahul to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial hospital for treatment. Vaishali informed us,” said MR Kekane, Assistant Police Inspector, Kamothe police station.

The police said Rahul was unmarried and angry with his parents as he felt they were not bothered about his marriage. He also wanted money from his father, as they had sold another flat they owned, few days ago.
