What do you do when three cute doughnuts, glazed with salted caramel and studded with bits of bacon, look at you longingly from a bowl? You ditch a buff bolognaise, and dig into dessert first. It's what we did as soon as we received our order from Bowl Baby Bowl, a new delivery-only kitchen in Bandra launched recently by the team behind Jamjar Diner and Bonobo.

A bite into the sponge- soft and moist Mini Bacon & Salted Caramel Donuts (Rs 178) and we were lost in the bliss of sweet and salty flavours with a heavenly, smoked aftertaste. Hands down, the best bacon-themed dessert we've tried in the city. Once satiated, we moved on to the eats.

Let's talk dirty
The menu offers a variety of cuisines - South American, Italian and Asian - that are delivered as meals in sturdy and microwave-able plastic bowls. From the snacks section, we tried Spinach & Cream Cheese Pockets (Rs 220). Deep-fried and crisp, the envelopes were stuffed with a delish filling that comforted us on the rainy day, especially when eaten with the accompanying sweet chilli dip.

Then, we dug into Southern BBQ Pork Bowl (Rs 347) where chunks of barbecued pork rested on a bed of dirty rice (that's what the menu promised) next to potato salad, corn cob and coleslaw. We savoured the well-cooked, smoked meat whose saltiness was balanced with the mayo-laced, starchy salad but the limp rice, which lacked any seasoning that could be dubbed dirty, marred the dish.

Thankfully, we found refuge in the chicken version of Nemo's Seoul Bowl (Rs 322), a hat-tip to the team's former venture, Cafe Nemo. The bowl was packed with sticky rice, chunks of crisp fried chicken and greens doused in delicious Korean sauces laced with peanuts and sesame - topped with a fried egg.

Ragu rant
From a range of Pasta Bowls, we had ordered Buffalo Bolognaise (Rs 347). Though cooked to perfection, the spaghetti left a dry taste in our palate, as it wasn't laced with enough tenderloin ragu, which also lacked seasoning and the required tang from roasted tomatoes.

The buff was redeemed by Veg Laksa Noodle Bowl (Rs 297) heaving with crunchy veggies doused in a creamy, coconut-based Penang curry that we relished with noodles, spicy sambal sauce and a bunch of accompanying condiments before reaching out to our first love, those mini bacon treats.
