From berry to brandy: Beat the monsoon blues with hot toddies in the city

Caramel notes
Soothe your frayed nerves with Rhim Jhim Toddy that comes infused with house-made gingerbread syrup, apple cider vinegar and ginger juice. With Hennessy VS as the base, the cognac lends caramel-ey sweetness and fruity notes to the drink, making it smoother on the palate. Enjoy it with Blooming Onion Pakoda.
Time 12 pm to 1 am At The Bombay Canteen, Kamala Mills, Lower Parel. Call 49666666 Cost '500

Brandy love

A toddy can be concocted with whisky, brandy or rum but Café Zoe co-partner Jérémie Horowitz prefers sticking to brandy and cognac for the two versions of Hot Toddy served At the restobar. “The motive is purely emotional. A hot toddy always reminds me of winter, flu, cold or rain. I cannot imagine any other spirit to soothe your nerves as perfectly as brandy or cognac,” he says. The drink includes freshly-chopped oranges and apples, lime, star anise, cloves, cinnamon and honey.
Time 7.30 am to 1.30 am At Café Zoe, Mathuradas Mill Compound, Lower Parel. Call 24902065 Cost '450 (with brandy), '780 (with cognac)

It's berry good

Who said cranberry can only be paired with vodka? Try Berry Toddy, where the acidic, sweet juice is mixed with brandy, and spiced with cinnamon and cardamom. The drink also features apple and orange chunks, and a dash of honey. Pair it with a basket of Malgapodi Onion Rings, Besant Nagar Chillies, Tomato Wedges and Bombay Toastie.
Time 12 pm to 1 am At Farzi Café, Kamala Mills, Lower Parel. Call 33511998 Cost '475

Toddy goes virgin

The Virgin Hot Toddy At Lemon Leaf is brewed in hot water instead of brandy. It also has an all-spice syrup, orange rind, star anise, cinnamon stick, honey, lemon and ginger slice. It aids digestion and stimulates blood circulation; a perfect cure for those sniffles.
Time 12 pm to 12 am At Lemon Leaf, Mandlik Road, Colaba.

A French kiss

If you're a fan of the exalted French cognac, Rémy Martin, enjoy it in Hot Apple Toddy. The mix also includes honey, a cinnamon stick, cloves and green apple slices. Teetotallers can enjoy a virgin version too.
Time 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm; 7.30 pm to 11.30 pm
At Umame, Maharishi Karve Road, Churchgate.

A whiff of the valley

Dream of snow-capped mountain breezes and the scenic setting of the Dal Lake as you sip on Kashmiri Toddy that stars warm apple tea made using green apples, cognac, spiced honey and saffron. “We source the saffron from Kashmir. It infuses a bright colour and a refreshing aroma to the drink. The apple tea adds the required sourness,” says head mixologist and director Nitin Tiwari.
