If having even a few people present in a restaurant on a weeknight after 11 pm is a fair assessment of its success, then Sizzle House in Shivaji Park is on a roll. On a late Wednesday night, people were still queuing up outside the new eatery. The comfy interiors and strategic location of being on the seafacing side of Shivaji Park have definitely helped. The food, though a bit too taxing on the pocket, is not a disappointment.

To get things started, we ordered a Fresh Lime Soda, our litmus test of sorts. Though this is one of the simplest drinks with little scope for mishaps, it is amazing how so many eateries either serve fresh lime soda that tastes suspiciously like Limca or go overboard with the sweet or salty flavour. Sizzle House sparkled on this count with full marks for a refreshing drink with sabja (basil seeds) added for taste. But at '150, it was priced way over the mark.

For starters, we went for Chicken Fingers ('225), which came in cheddar dust and set the mood for dinner. We then picked the Meatball Magic ('300). The chicken mince balls came in a loaf of bread dressed in cheese with potato wedges on the side. It was soft to bite into; the chicken balls were delicious, with a hint of tomato and pepper. The generosity with the cheese, though, could have been withheld a bit. Next to arrive was Peri Peri Pizza ('350). This thin crust chicken pizza is popular with the visitors, the staff informed us, and it did manage a good equilibrium of the smoky taste of chicken and the sauce.

Scanning the menu, we realised that though it mentions lamb with a tiny face of the creature drawn under the steaks section, Sizzle House doesn’t serve any mutton. We dropped the idea of having another chicken dish and opted for the Grilled Fish Steak Sizzle ('450) instead. As it arrived, the aroma of basa made us forget the earlier disappointments. Clubbed with buttered rice, assorted vegetables and a spicy red sauce, the fish melted in our mouths in perfect harmony.
