Bengalis love their food. From fragrant Mutton Biryani to creamy Chingri Malai Curry, the cuisine is exceptionally rich in non-vegetarian offerings. That doesn't mean veggies are shunned. You can tuck into stuffed and fried brinjal in the form of a Begun Bhaja, or mop up Aloo Dum with a soft luchi (poori).

If you'd like to sample some of these varied offerings from Kolkata and the rest of the state, head to Chembur for a Bengali home dining experience organised by Awestrich.

"We usually conduct heritage walks and other travel-related experiences in the city. But we had been contemplating entering the food space. This is the first time we're hosting a home dining experience," says co-founder Rihen Ajmera, who plans on launching Awestrich in Delhi by next week.

Every local who signs up to be a host on the platform is called a Native, and the forthcoming event will be held at the home of one such Native, Vinay Lohar. Lohar is a self-taught cook and on the day, he will be presenting a surprise menu comprising traditional Bengali dishes and Kolkata street fare.

"It's a four-course meal that's open to 10 people. While we can't reveal the full menu, I can say that we have kathi rolls for sure. Vinay will also be serving rosogullas. We can't have a Bengali meal without sweets, after all," adds Ajmera.
