Harris Shield: Swapnil Chavan hits double ton in Al-Barkaat's win

Al-Barkaat MMI's Swapnil Chavan continued his fine form as he scored a double ton to help the Kurla school register an outright win of an innings and 89 runs

Al-Barkaat MMI's Swapnil Chavan continued his fine form as he scored a double ton to help the Kurla school register an outright win of an innings and 89 runs over Shardashram Vidyamandir (English) on Day Two of the Harris Shield Elite Group second round at Islam Gymkhana yesterday.


Swapnil added 85 runs to his overnight score of 115, before he was caught by Aadarsh Patil. His 178-ball knock was laced with 39 boundaries and three sixes. He was ably supported by Faiz Rathod (68 runs). The Kurla school declared at 319-4. Shardashram knew they have an uphill task on hand and rightfully Al-Barkaat struck early on.

In the second innings, Shardashram got managed to score just 82 in 38.5 overs, compared to their 148 in the first innings. Al-Barkaat's left-arm-spinner Naufil Rozani picked a fifer (5-58) in his 15.5 overs spell, while Nabijan Ansari scalped four wickets giving away 28 runs.

Meanwhile, Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) beat IES Modern English (Dadar) by an innings and 170 runs at the Vengsarkar Academy, Oval Maidan. The Dadar school got out for 76 runs in the second innings after Rizvi declared at 290-6.

While, Swami Vivekanand (Borivli) beat Cathedral and John Cannon (Fort) by an innings and 123 runs at Parsee Gymkhana. Swami Vivekanand's off spinner Yash Jathar grabbed a fifer (5-17) and medium pacer Suved Parkar scalped 4-33. Cathedral and John Cannon were bowled out for 70 in 38.5 overs in the second innings. They managed 48 in their first innings.
