Defending champions Mumbai Indians seemed to be in a good position to post a big total before rain stopped play in last night's Champions League T20 Group B match against Yorkshire here at Newlands

The Indian outfit were 145-6 in 17 overs when the heavens opened for the first time. The teams got back on the field and play resumed, but five balls later, it poured again and the players came off with MI on 156/6 in 17.5 overs. No play was possible thereafter and the match ended in a no-result.

West Indies’ Kieron Pollard was unbeaten on 37 off 20 balls (three fours, two sixes) while Mitchell Johnson was five not out when play was stopped for the second time.

Earlier, Dwayne Smith scored a 26-ball 37 after MI were put in to bat by the Yorkshiremen. Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar managed just seven before he was run out, after which Rohit Sharma contributed a valuable 25 off 23 balls (one four, one six). Azeem Rafiq and Adil Rashid were the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers with 2-36 and 2-42 respectively.
