A milk van crushed a six-year-old boy in Goregaon on Monday. The driver fled the spot after the incident. The deceased has been identified as Ashraf Ali Sheikh, a resident of Ganesh Tower on Link Road in Shastri Nagar.

High speed kills
The incident occurred at 9.45 am when the deceased and his sister Bashira (12) were going to Azad Nagar. They were crossing the Link Road near Billabong International School, when the speeding van ran him over. Bashira screamed for help and people from nearby areas took Ashraf to Siddharth hospital. He died during treatment.

Sources said because the right turn on Link Road towards Malad is closed, vehicles go at high speed on the route. Ashraf was the youngest of the five siblings in his family and was studying in Junior KG at Tree House school situated in Shastri Nagar. Earlier, Ashraf's family was staying in Azad Nagar as his father runs a generator business there. They shifted to Ganesh Towar recently.

The sole witness
A officer from Bangurnagar police station said, We are taking help of CCTV footages to identify and trace the vehicle. Basira was the only witness of the incident. No one else saw the vehicle.

After completing the documentation process, the body was sent for postmortem. We have registered a case under sections 304 (culpable homicide), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by endangering life) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC. Further investigation is on, the officer added.
