Mumbai: No mega block on Harbour line this Sunday

There will be no megablock on Harbour Line on September 4

In a bid to minimise the inconvenience caused to lakhs of suburban passengers during mega block, the Central Railway has decided to spare the Harbour Line on September 4 from the weekend routine and would instead operate it only on the Main line here.

Also, in view of increasing train-related mishaps due to overcrowding, it has appealed passengers to avoid risking their lives while travelling during Sunday mega blocks.

"As a result of mega block, suburban trains are likely to be more crowded than usual. Passengers are requested not to take any risks while travelling," the CR said in a statement.

"They (passengers) are also requested to avoid travelling on foot board, rooftop of locals and not to board extremely overcrowded trains. Passengers are requested to bear with the railway administration for the inconvenience caused," it said.

CR has always faced flak for putting passengers in trouble on Sundays, when it operates block to carry out maintenance work on its Main and Harbour lines. But this time, CR is restricting the block only to Main line.

"The mega block would be operational between Mulund and Matunga on up slow line between 11.20 AM TO 3.20 PM. "All UP slow line services leaving Thane from 10.58 AM to 3.12 PM will be diverted on Up fast line between Mulund and Matunga stations halting at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli Ghatkopar, Kurla and Sion stations and further re-diverted to Up slow line proper at Matunga station," it said.
