If you thought only the most dedicated students got into the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B), it might shock you to learn that students here are also known to slack off.
As many as 56% of the students admitted that they had resorted to cheating for better grades, stated a survey of fresh IIT-B graduates, carried out by the institute’s student media body – ‘IITB Insight’. “As the respondents could remain anonymous, we feel the responses are honest and depict the real picture,” said Shreeyesh Menon, chief editor of Insight.

Given a chance, 11% of the students would never want to attend lectures, they said, while 32.5% said they would want to attend only before exams. About 38% of the graduates admitted that they would resort to malpractices as they were not interested in the course, while 18% said they thought twice before cheating but did it anyway. However, most of them expressed that they cheated only in assignments and not in exams.
