The students of Sharma English High School and the tempo driver were taken to Rajawadi hospital. The driver, Manoj Giri, and one of the kids, Sahil (14), were soon discharged after treatment for minor injuries. The three other kids — Arvind Vishwakarma (13), Nilesh Pasi(13),Vikash Gaud (13) – were transferred to Amar Hospital in Kurla.

“All three children are in stable condition. Arvind has a fracture in his left hand, while Nilesh and Vikash have some minor head injuries,” said Dr Vishwakarma from the hospital.

Arvind said, “From our school, one of our teachers took a bunch of us to the science exhibition at Vivekananda English high school. Since we were carrying a big science model, our school arranged a tempo to ferry us there.”

He added, “After the exhibition, four of us students were returning in the tempo, while our teacher was in a rickshaw with two other students. All of a sudden, the tempo driver lost control of the vehicle and we got hurt.”

Parents blamed the accident on the school, questioning why the students were made to travel in a tempo. “This is complete carelessness by the school authorities. Iinstead of taking a tempo, they should have taken a rickshaw to ferry our kids,” said Nilesh’s father, Govind Pasi. A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station.
