Mumbai sessions court rejects anticipatory bail plea of Teesta Setalvad

The Mumbai sessions court, on Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of social activist Teesta Setalvad in connection with the case of alleged violations relating to foreign funding of her NGO Sabrang Trust


The CBI had registered an offence against Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand, and businessman Peshimam Gulam Mohammed, all directors of Sabrang Communications and Publishing Private Ltd.

The CBI had alleged that Sabrang Communications violated the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA). They allege she received funds from foreign countries without any permissions and registration obtained from Ministry of Home Affairs.

On July 8, the CBI had registered a case against them for accepting foreign donations from the Ford Foundation without seeking prior permission of the concerned authorities.

A team of 16 CBI officers carried out the searches at Sabrang Communications and two premises at Juhu and Santacruz, including her house, last week, However, Setalvad alleged that it was a conspiracy by the BJP government that is at the Centre.
