As if the ordeal of being raped wasn’t traumatising enough, a minor bled profusely and bore pain for over 60 hours before finally being admitted to a hospital as she was allegedly turned away. The seven-year-old survivor was ultimately admitted to the Shatabdi Hospital at Kandivli in a critical condition on the third day of the rape, after her family approached an NGO for help and members intervened. Her family has alleged that she was bleeding profusely, but the hospital staff had refused to admit her.

The Kandivli police have arrested the accused who allegedly raped the girl on August 16, after luring her with money. He was identified as Sanjeev Paswan.
The accused works at a construction site at Laljipada in Kandivli. He allegedly committed the crime there when no one was around. The girl’s mother and father also work at the same place. Her mother is the complainant.
The incident
According to the survivor’s grandmother, “The incident took place around 2:30 pm on August 16. Initially the Kandivli police took her to Laljipada beat chowki, from where they took her back to Kandivli police station. She was continuously complaining of pain but the police took her to the Shatabdi Hospital at around 7 pm. The medical checkup began at around 1:30 am, and after being treated she was discharged. Again the police took her and her mother to Kandivli police station and let them go at 6 pm on August 17.”
“On the morning of August 18 she was still bleeding, so I gave the medicine which was given by the Shatabdi hospital doctor, but there was no relief,’ she added.
The girl’s mother then took her to Shatabdi hospital at 9 pm. “The doctors refused to admit her, they were asking us for the police complaint copy. When I had approached the Kandivli police, an officer said it is not necessary to take the copy of the FIR, they will admit her,” said the survivor’s mother.
Approached an NGO
It was then that the girl’s grandmother approached an NGO seeking help. Mahila Aadhaar Ekta Sangharsh Samiti members Indu Pawar, Vijaya Pacharne along with Raju Pawar tried to admit the girl. Initially the doctors refused to admit her. “But when I called dean Dr Krishna Kumar Pimple and told him about the girls’ condition, he gave orders to admit her,” said Raju Pawar.
“There is no change in her condition,” said Indu Pawar. Raju Pawar added, “When we tried to get in touch with Dr Pimple, he refused to comment.”
However, speaking to mid-day, Dean Dr Krishna Kumar Pimple said, “After the medical checkup the doctors felt there was no need to admit her and let her go. But two days later family members complained that there was a problem. The duty officer examined her and felt she must be admitted. There was no negligence.”
