An officer from Thane GRP said, “Kumar was a tattoo artist by profession and had gone to Mulund to make a tattoo, along with his friend. When they were returning, the duo got down at Kalwa station following which the two accused came and caught hold of him while his friend was let off.”

The accused then took Kumar to their third accomplice, Raja Dukkar, who was waiting near Mafatlal Company in Kalwa. Police said there they allegedly strangulated Kumar to death and threw his body in a nullah nearby. Aniket had informed Kumar’s parents about him being kidnapped by the two accused, following which they went to Kalwa police station and registered a missing complaint.

“The CCTV footage of Kalwa station revealed that the victim was kidnapped from the station following which the case was transferred to Thane GRP. We then started our investigation with the CCTV footage obtained from the station,” added an officer.

In the last week of August, the cops received a tip-off about Ghole and the informer claimed that he (Ghole) is a resident of Kalyan. Ghole was then arrested. “In the first three days of investigation, the accused didn’t reveal any details or confess to the crime.

However, on the fourth day the accused confessed that he had murdered Kumar along with two other associates. But he tried misleading the police saying that they dumped his body near Kalyan,” said an officer. Cops spent nearly a week in order to locate Kumar’s body but soon they got a tip-off on Dukkar’s whereabouts. He was also arrested.

“Even Dukkar is a resident of Kalyan and the two stayed close by and it was during his investigation, that it was revealed that they had dumped Kumar’s body in a nullah behind Mafatlal Company,” added an officer.

Reason behind the murder
Kunal Desle, a goon from a rival gang had assaulted Dukkar four months ago, for which he (Desle) was arrested and Kumar was involved in getting him bailed out. Dukkar’s gang held a grudge against him and planned to murder him.

The two arrested accused have been booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 302 (murder), 201 (destroying of evidence) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Senior police inspector Sunil Tondwalkar from Thane GRP said that the investigation is in progress.
