An 18-year-old boy committed suicide yesterday afternoon by jumping off from the third floor of his college, after his father scolded him for smoking in the holy month of Ramzan.
In the suicide note that police found in his shirt pocket, it was written, “I will not smoke ever again, forgive me papa.” His father Babu Shaikh, who runs an electronic store, had caught him smoking with his friends on Wednesday evening and had scolded him in front of them, saying that he is too young to start smoking prompting the teenager to take such an extreme step.
The deceased identified as Sameer Shaikh jumped off the third floor of Oriental College of Commerce and management in Andheri west at 1.30 pm when the classes were still going on.
On finding his body in a pool of blood, the college authorities rushed him to Kokilaben Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival. Post mortem will be done in Cooper hospital.
The police said that in the suicide note, Sameer has categorically mentioned that he is ending his life because his father threw temper on him and added that “my friends are not good and our area is a very bad, I am sorry daddy! I won’t smoke ever again.”
A case of accidental death has been registered and further probe is on.
