Not being able to manage the loss his business was facing, a textile trader committed suicide by jumping from the 17th floor of a building in Lokhandwala area of Kandivali East, where he resided. The deceased has been identified as Manish Khupchand Mehta, 54.

According to police, Mehta was running a textile import-export business by the name Text Venture LLP in Goregaon. He was residing on the 17th floor of the Octacrest building, along with his 48-year-old wife and two sons. While his elder son worked for INOX, the younger one was pursuing engineering. The incident occurred around 8.40 am on Thursday morning, when Mehta jumped from his bedroom balcony. He was immediately rushed to Shatabdi hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

During enquiry, Mehta's family told the cops that he was facing heavy loss in his business and had gone into depression. "While having dinner the previous night, he discussed the matter with his family and was extremely upset about it. After waking up in the morning, he went out for jogging and returned after a while. Then he went to his bedroom and jumped off the balcony," said an officer from Samtanagar police station.

Speaking to mid-day, Dilip Yadav, senior inspector, said, "We have registered an accidental death report in the matter and handed over the body to the family. Further investigation into the matter is on."
