The folks behind theatre company, Bread & Butter Ent are on cloud nine. Not just are the artistes ready with a new play — The Untitled — which will be staged in Mumbai on June 14, but they also have the distinction of being selected for UK’s youth theatre festival, Contacting the World, 2014. Only six theatre companies were chosen from over 36 global entries to perform at Manchester.

“We applied to Contacting the World Festival because it is a prestigious international theatre festival for young artistes and performers. It is thrilling to be a part of it because it is very difficult to get selected for the festival. The selected six companies, — including us — also include ones from Scotland, Jamaica, Iran and more,” says Medha, who has written and directed The Untitled, which will travel to UK in the month of July after its premiere in the city.

The play is a devised piece created in collaboration with young performers from Corby, UK. It explores the premise of things around us that matter the most but are mostly forgotten. It is a take on the present state of the social order, where every kind of artist questions his / her existence and status in society. The Untitled is the journey of such artists, and their quest to find a ‘title’ as well as an assured status for themselves in a social order that is unappreciative of them.

Currently, along with preparations for the Mumbai run, the company is looking for sponsorships for their
UK stint.

“We leave for the UK on July 4. We will do a show in Manchester on July 10 and then travel to Corby for another show on July 14. We hope to get sponsorship for this project for a smooth running,” shares Medha, who started Bread & Butter Ent five years ago with the company’s first production, Papier-Macher Petals.

On June 14, 7.30 pm
