Mumbai University will give its land to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to construct 1.2km long elevated road with 2+2 lanes from bharat Diamond Bourse Junction in BKC to Vakola Junction near Western Express Highway.


The objective is to ease traffic congestion and better connectivity. Mumbai University will handover 18,834sq. meters land to MMRDA. Besides this, MMRDA will also be constructing 400-m long 30-m wide road in vicinity of Mumbai University for additional connectivity from BKC to Santacruz Chembur Link Road. Another 15,881sq.meters land will be given to MMRDA. In all, Mumbai University will hand over 34,715sq.meters land to MMRDA.


Mr.UPS Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA and Dr.Sanjay Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University jointly announced the plan on Friday. The TDR generated. The TDR generated after handing over the land to MMRDA will be sold and used for the overall development of Mumbai University which will include construction of hostels, Staff Quarters, Guest House, Science Block etc. in the area admeasuring 3lkah sq. meters approximately.


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), to provide better connectivity to ever developing Bandra-Kurla Complex, is constructing a few roads. Total length of the flyover including approaches in 1,888-m and is having 2+2 lanes. The estimated cost of the work is Rs.253 crore.

These roads are - Sea Link to BKC – The proposed flyover will provide free flow/signal-free traffic from Sea Link – from Mahim Causeway side entering into BKC. The proposed flyover will provide signal-free traffic from BKC towards Mahim Causeway – towards Sea Link side on WEH. In addition, there will be a road on stilt from Kalanagar towards Sea Link, which will cater to the traffic from Sion/Dharavi.

Another project of an elevated connector from BKC to EEH which will start from ‘G’ Block in BKC to join EEH via Mithi River, LBS Road, Central Railway track Duncan Causeway Road, colony road leading to Chunabhatti Railway Station, crossing Harbour Line tracks and Somaiyya Trust Ground. The 1.6-km long Connector will have 2+2 lanes.

A bridge will be constructed across Mithi River - Railway over Bridges (ROB) across Central and Harbour Railway lines - Viaduct from Chunabhatti Railway Station to EEH including dispersal system. Construction of ROB in lieu of level crossing near Chunabhatti Railway Station on VN Purav Marg is a part of BKC Connector project as requested by Railways. Length of ROB is 300-m with 2+2 lanes. This ROB will eliminate level crossing.
