Mumbai: Woman crushed by minibus after being flung off speeding bike
Govandi woman dies in a freak accident after getting flung off the bike she's riding pillion on and landing under a moving bus
A 20-year-old woman, riding as the second pillion on a bike with two friends, died after the rider allegedly tried to dodge a speed breaker. He lost control over the vehicle, which skidded, and the woman got crushed under a minibus. In the incident that happened on November 16, the police booked and arrested the bike rider on Saturday. They are now looking for the bus driver, who has been booked too.

Crushed to death
According to the police, the incident happened around 6.30 pm when Hashim Chowdhary, Naved Khan and Rafia Khan were going towards Sakinaka from Andheri and had reached Chakala. Chowdhary was riding the bike, Naved was behind him and Rafia after him, with both her legs on one side.

Sources said that on spotting a speed breaker, Chowdhary allegedly attempted to dodge it to avoid slowing down, but the bike skidded, flinging Rafia off and landing her below a moving minibus, causing her grievous injuries. Chowdhary and Naved, who sustained minor injuries, took her to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw with the help of passers-by.

When Rafia's mother tried to call her on her cellphone, she saw that her daughter had left it at home. Worried about her not reaching home, she went through her mobile phone and found the last-called number. When she called on it, Naved answered and told her what had happened.

Shortly after, the Sahar police reached the hospital and found that Naved and Chowdhary had left after the arrival of her parents. An officer said, "An FIR under IPC sections and Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against both bike and bus drivers. The rider was arrested from Govandi and produced before a court on Sunday, which sent him to judicial custody. The other accused will be arrested soon."
