A 20-year-old woman has lodged a complaint against her husband for giving her a ‘talak’ through a letter. The woman got married in 2016 and is resident of Bhiwandi. She also filed a complaint against her in-laws, alleging that they demanded Rs 50,000 from her as dowry in order to buy a two wheeler as per reports by Hindustan Times.


The woman also added that she was beaten up and says that after continuous harassment, went to live with her parents after six months of marriage. In November 2016, the woman got a letter from her husband in which he had written the word ‘talak’ thrice. The woman then approached the redressal forum.


As per K Jadhav, senior inspector from Shantinagar police station, “She was counselled but the woman lodged a case. We have not arrested anyone as both the parties will be called to record their statement.” Triple Talak has been declared illegal by the Supreme Court
