With several restaurants popping up in the city every week, it is safe to say that Mumbai loves food, and all the fun that comes with both eating out and cooking at home. This Wednesday, NCPA’s Amadeus will host Bombay Fusion in the Cafe NCPA area. The fest, organised by Trilok Nichlani, Rushab Vora, Sanjana Jogani and Gautam Vora, will see 40 pop-up shops where chefs will whip up exciting platters.

“Usually food festivals are about what you eat at the venue, but we want to take it one step ahead. We have stalls that sell quirky kitchen accessories from coffee makers, coaters to aprons, and fresh organic fruits to take home,” says Vora, who is excited about getting on board people who sell French cheese, apple ciders, olive oil and gourmet ice cream. “We even have tea and coffee,” he adds.

To keep the energy high, the team has put together a mystery box challenge where three to five participants will compete for the top dish, judged by a panel of experts, food bloggers and chefs. “We are also getting on board a winery that will offer free samples and help people understand food and wine pairing. From the location you can see the sea. It’s a perfect place to meet over food,” says Vora. A few of the 40 participants include, Paninaro, known for its baked breads and Mango Hill, a company that makes French cheese in Pondicherry.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are not just desserts, but even healthy desserts, say Jogani. “Now, with so much emphasis on healthy food, we’ve made the effort to cater to all kinds of audiences. “We have honey, pickles and hot cookies to choose from,” says Jogani, who was inspired to organise a food fest after she attended on in London. “It’s wonderful to invite participants who usually sell through word of mouth. It’s going to be a fun day, with lots of food to sample and take home for your loved ones,” she concludes.
