Rock, Blues, Jazz or just popular groovy music; Akshata Shetty picks four must-attend gigs happening over the weekend








The New Delhi-based band features Miss Samara C (lead vocals), Delhi Sultanate (lead vocals), Stefan 'Flexi' K (keyboards/vocals), The Late Nikhil Vasudevan (drums), Tony Bass (bass guitar), Raghav 'Diggy' Dang (rhythm guitar), Rie Ona (alto Sax), Yohei Sato (trombone), Juan Caranza (trumpet) and Santana Issar (visual projections). They add their unique take on songs by reggae and soul legends such as Lee Scratch Perry, Betty Harris, Marcia Griffiths. But they truly show their potential when they work on their original compositions. Following the release of their first song Rude Boy Skank on the Stupid Ditties IV compilation album in October 2010, the band created huge waves with a handful of gigs. They are currently putting finishing touches to their first album, slated for release in December 2011, which is being mixed by UK-based music producer, Miti Adhikari (Radiohead, Coldplay and India's Menwhopause and Them Clones).u00a0

A One Night Stand with classic rock
Watch One Night Stand live in action as they perform at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender pre-party. The music band draws inspiration from the classic rock of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.


Their playlist ranges from songs by Pink Floyd and Dire Straits to heavier artists such as Van Halen, Deep Purple and Ozzy Osbourne.

Sky Rabbit causes Electronic Rock fever
Sky Rabbit (formerly known as Medusa) is an Electronic / Rock band based in Mumbai. The band comprises of Raxit (vocals / samples), Rahul (guitar / samples), Siddharth (bass) and Harsh (drums). They have worked with some of the best musicians in the Indian independent music circuit.



They are an album-old and are working on a new one. Sky Rabbit was one of the four bands in India that was selected to be part of Soundpad, a project organised by the British Council, where they recorded two tracks with legendary producer John Leckie (Radiohead, Pink Floyd, The Verve). In 2009, the band performed at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton and continued their UK tour to Cardiff, Oxford, Liverpool and London.

Gear up for a musical soiree
Enjoy an evening of soul-stirring music with Rivka Golani (viola) and John Lenehan (piano) live in concert. Born in Israel, Golani was trained at the Music Academy of Tel Aviv by violist and composer Oedoen P rtos. At the age of 23, she became a member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Her contributions to the advancement of viola technique has already given her a place in the history of the instrument. More than 250 works have so far been composed for Rivka, including 65 Concerti: a record matched by no other violist in history. John Lenehan is a renowned pianist and active as a composer. He has written and arranged for Angelika Kirchschlager, Kennedy, Julian Lloyd Webber, Tasmin Little and Emma Johnson. He also has more than 60 CDs to his credit. The event is being organised by the Poona Music Society.
