My boyfriend and ex get along far too much
Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age
This is a weird thing to write about, but I'm jealous of my boyfriend and his relationship with my ex-boyfriend. I introduced them to each other a few months ago, and they ended up getting along very well. Since then, they have met a few times and have even hung out with each other's friends. My boyfriend just added my ex on Facebook, and now they comment on each other's posts and share memes on each other's pages. I know this sounds a little childish, because it's not as if my relationship with my boyfriend is being threatened in any way, but I am just irritated with the whole thing and don't know why. I don't want to tell my boyfriend to stop hanging out with my ex, because he will call me petty, but this is really beginning to annoy me. What should I do?
If you recognise that your feeling is unreasonable, why is it difficult for you to suppress it? Are you afraid of what they will talk about? Are you assuming they meet to discuss you alone? If it's bothering you, speak to your boyfriend about it, because you should put your feelings across. Have a conversation about why you feel the way you do, and allow him to explain why he likes hanging out with your ex too. You should both arrive at some sort of a compromise on this.
I want to change the way my boyfriend and I communicate, because he finds it more comfortable to speak about personal issues with his friends than he does with me. It makes him feel vulnerable for some reason. I don't want to ask him to be open directly, but there must be cues I can give him.
It takes some people time to open up. If you are open about your feelings and personal issues, it may encourage him to reciprocate. It isn't something you can force though, so I suggest you to be patient.
