'My friends mock me for being a 23-year-old virgin'

I am a 23-year-old virgin, which amuses my friends a lot. They tease me about it constantly, as if it's something I should be ashamed of. I am a virgin because I have never had a relationship with anyone. This didn't bother me so much earlier, but it's my birthday in a few weeks, and I'm afraid they will harass me even more from that point on. It's so bad that I don't even feel like going out with them anymore, because they will simply start taunting me after a few minutes. I don't know what to do. This is harassment, and it's worse because it's by my closest friends. Should I stop speaking to them altogether? I don't want to lose my friends, but I can't deal with this sort of humour on a daily basis because it's making me depressed. How do I sort it out?
Your friends are being ridiculous. Losing your virginity at a particular age is of absolutely no importance, simply because it's not a popularity contest. I understand that their constant taunting will make it impossible for you to deal with them for a while but, the more you ask them to stop, the more they will be encouraged, because children and teenagers can be cruel. I suggest you think about why their comments are hurting you, understand that they don't mean you any harm, accept that there is absolutely no real importance attached to when you actually have sex, and learn to grow a thicker skin, because this will protect you for the rest of your life. As for your virginity and not being in a relationship, these things happen when they will. You're not going to a die a virgin and, even if you do, there are worse things in life to worry about. For now, focus on other things in life that ought to occupy you, like education and your career. When you're 30, you may just have the last laugh.
