'My wife isn't willing to have a baby anytime soon'
Introducing Dr Love, who solves your relationship riddles in a confusing digital age
I have been married for two years, and we have been very happy except for the fact that I would like a child and my wife is not ready yet. This is creating a bit of tension between us, because she said she wanted to start a family soon, when we were dating, and it feels as if she has changed her mind for no good reason now. I have tried asking her about it, but she says I am putting too much pressure on her and wants more time to be ready for it. I feel guilty about forcing her, or mentioning it often, but I love children and would like to start a family as soon as possible because I think we are both ready for it. How can I convince her to agree? She loves children, too, so I don't know what the problem is and why she isn't as eager to have a child as I am. Please help me.
This isn't about convincing her. It's her body and her prerogative. I also find it strange that you feel the need to impose your own wishes upon her, while ignoring the fact that she will be the mother of this child and, therefore, has every right to decide when she thinks she is ready to play that role. She hasn't refused to start a family and is simply asking for more time. So what if she agreed before the two of you were married? Are people not allowed to change their minds, especially when it comes to such an important, life-changing decision? Parenting is a huge responsibility, so I suggest you take it on only when you are both mentally and physically prepared for the task.
My friends want to spend more time with my boyfriend, but he doesn't like them. What should I do?
Tell them he doesn't enjoy their company, and hope that he changes his mind in time. You are all adults, so this shouldn't be a problem.
