The Nerul police, which is investigating the rape case of a 13-year-old girl, has said that the accused in the case, a teacher, has fled to Delhi. The teacher, who is in his 40s, is said to have been on the run since September, when the FIR was registered.
According to a report in Times of India, the accused allegedly raped the girl twice in April and August, on the school premises while the other students were attending a physical education training session, cops informed them.
The report added that, in September, the survivor complained of stomach pain, after which her mother took her to a private doctor. To the shock of the mother, the doctor revealed that the girl was four weeks pregnant. The woman then informed her husband, who works in Pune. The girl finally broke down and spoke of her ordeal. She added that the accused had threatened her of dire consequences.
The TOI report went on to say that the girl's mother confronted the teacher, but he rubbished the allegations. A rape case was later registered against the teacher at Nerul police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).
Adikrao Pol, senior inspector of Nerul police station, told TOI, "Over the last two months, we were unable to trace the teacher's whereabouts. When the FIR was registered against the teacher in September, policemen had gone to his residence in Koparkhairane, but he could not be traced. He had even switched off his mobile phone. As a rape case was registered against him, the school principal had immediately suspended him from his job. A couple of days ago, we tracked down his location to Delhi."
The TOI report also added that the teacher is married and has one son. He fled from his Koparkhairane residence and, after that his family also left the flat. "The alleged sexual assault on the minor came to light only after five months when she had become pregnant after which she confided in her mother and revealed the name of the teacher," Pol told the paper.
A team from Navi Mumbai has reached Delhi and is coordinating with the local law-enforcement officials over there.
