Check before you buy a bottle of beer. It may just turn out to be an expired product. A customer Bhakti Bhosle, resident of Navi Mumbai, had purchased five bottles of Corona beer from the outlet but she got the shock of her life on checking the manufacturing and best before dates. All the bottles had expired on July 2016.

“On October 18, I purchased five Corona beer bottles for a party at my place from the liquor section of Vashi Hypercity. As I was in a hurry, I did not check the bottles. After four of the bottles had already been consumed, one of my friends showed me the expiry date. I was shocked to see that all of them had expired on July 2016,” said Bhosle. She added, “While it is embarrassing to serve expired products to guests, I cannot even imagine what would have happened if the drink became fatal for them.”

A guest at the party Karan Arora said, “While having the beer I found it to be slightly bitter. As it was odd I checked the expiry date and found that all the bottles had already expired.”

‘Came with empty bottles’
Speaking to mid-day, the owner of Living Liquid section, Mouksh Sani said, “The customer had come with four empty beer bottles. Even the caps where the batch number is written were not there. How do we check whether the bottles were purchased from our shop or not? They were not even our regular customers.”

Refuting his statement, Bhosale said, “We entered the shop with all the five bottles. How can one bottle belong to their shop and other four not?”

Official speak
Speaking to mid-day, head trade marketing manager of Corona Beer, Vimesh Rohi said, “We are only responsible for the supply of products. Shops should not store out dated products.”

A spokesperson from Hypercity, Vashi said, “We follow stringent quality procedures. While the current matter is under investigation, we would like to reaffirm that we will continue to work with our partners to ensure that quality products are delivered to all our customers.”
