A 30-year-old labourer, hailing from Bihar, was electrocuted while he was working inside a and warehousing facility at Mahape, Navi Mumbai, on Friday. Even as Turbhe cops confirmed that investigations are underway, initial probe has revealed that the company had been stealing power from the main line for its business activities.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) officials reached the incident spot with police personnel to check the irregularities this morning.

Speaking to mid-day, police sub-inspector Archana Gadhve said, "Some construction work was going on within the premises of Crystal Cold Storage company for the past few days due to which several labourers were working inside the warehouse. A labourer from Bihar, Siyaram Ramchandra Sahane, wanted to use a welding machine. He found the machine lying at one corner of the construction site. Sahane had forgotten to turn off the main power connection, so, as soon as he picked up the machine he was electrocuted." Gadhve said that the incident took place around 8 am. "He was rushed to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. When we went to the incident spot for inspection, we found that electricity was being stolen from the main line for construction purposes."

Accompanied by area electric inspector SS Desai and his MSEB team, Gadhve visited the site again this morning. "Along with the welding machine, which led to the accident, we have submitted all the information we have gathered about the power theft to the MSEB electric inspector. We are now awaiting Sahane's post-mortem report, but his body has been collected by his neighbours in the city, who plan to take it to his hometown in Bihar to perform his last rites," Gadhve said.
