Taluka President of the labour cell of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and president of Mathadi Kamgar Sanghatana Pandharinath Haribhau Saatkar was shot at a hotel near Naigaon in Wadgaon Maval area around 10 pm on Saturday
Saatkar was shot from close range and has sustained a bullet injury to his head. Doctors at the private hospital in Akurdi, where he is receiving treatment, have described his condition as critical, but stable.
u00a0“The motive behind this attack and the identity of the assailants are yet to be established. We are investigating whether past rivalry was the reason,” said Manojkumar Lohiya, superintendent of police, Pune Rural.

According to Wadgaon Maval police, Saatkar was having tea with his friend Dattatraya Lalgude, who is also the owner of Pooja hotel. Four assailants wearing helmets arrived at the hotel on their bikes. After parking their vehicles, the offenders fired three bullets towards Saatkar.
Saatkar was hit on his head, hand and back. The gunmen immediately took off in the direction of Lonavla. A local stall owner called up the police. Cops questioned some witnesses at the hotel, but they could not reveal much, as the accused had their faces covered.
Lonavla sub-divisional police officer Vaibhav Kalubarme said, “We have registered a case against unidentified persons and our teams have fanned out to nab them. The reason behind the attack is not known yet.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra State Mathadi Transport and General Labour Union has condemned the incident, and demanded immediate arrest of the persons involved. u00a0
