A four-year-old girl from Santacruz was raped by her neighbour while her parents were not at home. The incident took place late on Thursday evening, after the victim’s neighbour saw the girl’s mother leave the house and took advantage of the situation.
According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Sanjay Mohite, 37. He reportedly barged inside the house and found the girl sleeping alone. “The father of the victim had gone out for work, so her mother left the house to buy some milk.
That’s when the accused noticed the girl sleeping alone and entered the house,” said a police official. He added that after raping the girl, Mohite left the house immediately to avoid getting caught by the mother. “When the mother entered the house, she noticed her daughter lying in a pool of blood and immediately took her to a nearby hospital,” he said.

The hospital authorities confirmed that the girl had been raped. On Friday, the girl’s family approached the Santacruz police, after which the accused was arrested from his residence. Mohite has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.
