This D-Day, shopkeepers as well as customers in Delhi are setting a novel trend of late-night shopping. Shopkeepers of wholesale markets such as Sadar Bazar, Paharganj and Azad Market, have kept their stores open till 2.30-3 in the morning. People too are finding the arrangement agreeable as they get to avoid the day time rush, and can shop at leisure.

Festive fervour: People shop for Diwali

Hit by inflation
The shopkeepers, however, claim the continuous price hike has hit their businesses adversely and that is why they have decided to keep their shops open till late.

Shivam Kumar, who owns a crockery store in Azad Market, said, "Business this year has been rather slow, though it picked up in the last two days before Diwali. The idea of staying open till late worked out well and contributed to some unexpected sales. Also, people enjoyed shopping at odd hours, as there are no hassles."

Remarking on the late-night shopping, Priya Ratnani, a marketing professional, said, "I had office every day and could not go for Diwali shopping. So I headed out late in the night and was surprised to find many shops open. We had a great time shopping."
