If the negotiations go through, Nicole would be teaming up with Julia Roberts for the first time. The remake will also star '12 Years A Slave' actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Billy Ray has written the script for the remake and will be directing it.

The original Spanish film won the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film in 2010. Its story revolves around the life of a retired attorney, who revisits an unsolved rape and murder case, and his unrequited love for his former boss, by writing a book. In the process of writing the book, he ends up unlocking many secrets.

The original film is written and directed by Juan Jose Campanella.

Nicole will next be seen portraying the role of explorer Gertrude Bell in Werner Herzog's 'Queen of the Desert'.
