Nishad Shah retains U-16 table tennis title

Despite suffering from cramps in his left leg, Nishad Shah of Jamnabai Narsee, overcame Shaun Rebello (of St Blaze) 11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6 to retain his U-16 title in the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school table tennis tournament at University Pavilion yesterday.

Despiteu00a0suffering from cramps in his left leg, Nishad Shah of Jamnabai Narsee, overcame Shaun Rebello (of St Blaze) 11-4, 11-9, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6 to retain his U-16 title in the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school table tennis tournament at University Pavilion yesterday.

In a contest that swung both ways, Nishad bounced back from injury to clinch the fourth and fifth sets, having dropped the third. "I played despite the cramps because this is the last year I will be playing at the inter-school level. I wasn't too sure if I would be able to defend my singles title. I just took a chance and won," Nishad told Sunday MiD DAY.u00a0 At the team event, Nishad had to settle for the runners-up crown as Jamnabai Narsee lost 2-3.u00a0
