No TV, newspapers for convicts in jail

Sayyed Mohammed Hanif (46), his wife Fehmida (43) and accomplice Ashrat Ansari (32), who were awarded death sentences for their involvement in the twin blasts at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar on August 25, 2003, have nothing to look forward to.

No TV, newspapers for convicts in jail

Sayyed Mohammed Hanif (46), his wife Fehmida (43) and accomplice Ashrat Ansari (32), who were awarded death sentences for their involvement in the twin blasts at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar on August 25, 2003, have nothing to look forward to.

They will be shifted to the Yerawada Jail in Pune where they will have to wear the prison uniform. They will be exempt from daily prayer sessions, but won't be entitled to privileges like newspapers and television.


Their relatives will be subject to police verification and can meet them only once a month for 20 minutes after getting the necessary app-roval.





Unlike other sentenced convicts who have to compulsorily work during their stay in the jail, capital punishment awar-dees are spared from doing prison work and are not entitled to emoluments from the State.

However, their families can send Rs 1,500 a month for essential purchases like soap and toothpaste.
