No way to treat coach Sulkashan Kulkarni: Sudhir Naik

Mumbai: Former chairman of selectors Sudhir Naik, who resigned from his post during the Ranji Trophy season to become a ground consultant for Wankhede Stadium and Kandivli ground, slammed the Technical Committee’s recommendations to replace Sulkashan Kulkarni as coach and the selection panel.

“This is a wrong decision. They should have called for a discussion with the captain and coach before arriving to any conclusion. They should have asked for explanations. It is important to remember that this side is rebuilding.

Every team faces such situations. Even Australia slumped to an all-time low after their greats retired. I still believe Sulkashan is the best coach available for Mumbai,” Naik said.

It is learnt that the Technical Committee has recommended a few names of former Mumbai cricketers to form the new selection panel.

Erstwhile skipper Milind Rege could be back as chief selector while ex-India cricketers Sameer Dighe and Nilesh Kulkarni could be part of the panel.

It can be recalled, Rege (in October 2012) quit as the chief selector in disgust after MCA promoted Abey Kuruvilla, who was part of Rege’s committee, as their candidate to become a national selector from West Zone.
