International Cricket Council's Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat ruled out the possibility of a window for Indian Premier League (IPL) or other domestic Twenty20 leagues in the future.
In an interview with MiD DAY for the tabloid's 32-year anniversary special that will hit the stands tomorrow, Lorgat said ICC have never considered a window for T20 leagues, despite growing pressure from illustrious names such as Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist and Kevin Pietersen. "Most of our Members run successful domestic T20 leagues already, so there is no reason to believe that will not continue. It is not for the ICC to schedule Member domestic leagues in the international cricket calendar and we have never been asked to do so. In fact we have never considered this formally," he said.
On the issue of tackling freelance T20 cricketers, Lorgat said: "Players are free to choose their affiliations but all sportsmen thrive on international competition and know that representing one's country is the ultimate. This will not change for the vast majority of cricketers."
Lorgat asserted that Test cricket is unlikely to witness 'further evolutions', "T20s and ODIs will continue to evolve with exciting new elements being introduced from time to time. However, as far as Test cricket is concerned, we are always reluctant to make major changes. It's important to remember the history and legacy ufffd a lot of what makes Test cricket so enjoyable and enduring is that it still has a similar look and feel to what it did many decades ago," said the ICC chief.
