Banquet areas demolished in Noida allegedly after the officer couldn't get the place to host a function for his daughter

On July 31, authorities pulled down three banquet halls that were illegally constructed next to the Great India Place mall complex in Noida Sector 18. The curious part is that the structure was up and running for the last three years. So what provoked this sudden demolition drive?

All is well? Banquet facilities right next to the Great India Place (above)
were demolished on July 31.

According to a highly-placed source, a senior official at the Noida authority contacted the Great India Place mall to host a ceremony for his daughter's wedding but due to prior booking the space was unavailable. The very next day seven bulldozers razed the banquet area to the ground, allegedly without prior notice.
Understandably, no Noida authority representative confirmed the news and insisted that prior notice was sent to the banquet hall owners.

"Three unauthorised open banquet halls at The Great India Place Mall complex constructed by International Recreation Parks Private Limited (IRPPL) at the Entertainment city complex were demolished.u00a0 This place was for recreational activity but it was put to commercial use and banquet halls were built. They were served notices but they continued the activity. We demolished the unauthorised structures," said Noida Deputy Chief Executive Officer, C B Singh.

An official from IRPPL said, "These were temporary structures built on nuts and bolts. There was no permanent building which Noida authority failed to realise. We thought there was no need for permissions as permanent structures were not built. We explained this to the authority staff. However, if they feel any permission is required, we will apply for the same."

But an IRPPL official said on condition of anonymity: "This site was functional for the last three years and we booked it six months in advance. Suddenly the authority demolished the banquet area which has caused loss of business and valuable clients. It was an emotional setback for our clients who had booked the place with us but we are trying to carry out some crisis management."
