Wanted in extortion, murder and kidnap cases, Sharad Mohol picked up from city outskirts along with accomplice; court awards police custody till Feb 27

They were produced before a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court yesterday morning. The two were remanded in police custody till February 27. "He (Mohol) was also named in the Shankar Mahadev Dhindale (41) kidnapping case in October last year," said Senior Police Inspector Sunil Darekar of the Warje Malwadi police station.

Dhindale, the sarpanch of Lavasa village, was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint for a ransom of Rs 50 lakh by members of the Mohol gang from Karve Nagar on October 30 last year. He was later released after the ransom amount was collected from his residence at Dhayri.

Bhalerao and Mohol were booked under sections 394 (robbery by hurting), 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 347 (wrongful confinement), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, Section 3 (24) of the Arms Act and Section 3 (1) (11) of the MCOCA.

Early this January, the police had also recovered a huge cache of arms from two members of the Mohol gang.
Members of the Anti-Organised Crime Cell and Crime Branch (Unit IV) confiscated eight country made pistols and 83 live rounds from Ajay Tukaram Kadu and Anil Khole, both aged 22. Kadu and Khole are residents of Kelwadi and Warje villages, respectively.
