The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been kept in the loop along with the two cantonment boards for coordinating projects in both these defence jurisdictions and for getting funds under JNNURM.

“The decision to include all the cantonment boards was taken by the central defence and urban development ministries after a brainstorming session a few months ago,” Additional Municipal Commissioner (JNNURM) Anupkumar Yadav said. “Now, directives have been given to us about the new decision regarding provision of the facility of JNNURM funds to the two adjoining cantonment boards in the city.

The cantonment boards can make their own estimation of expenses by first preparing the City Development Plan (CDP) and then quote the amount specially required for infrastructural development projects, including the bigger projects for civic purposes.”

For the cantonment projects, the Centre will provide 50 per cent of the funds, the defence department 20 per cent and the remaining 30 per cent will be borne by the respective boards. “For the PMC, the only difference is that the 20 per cent share will come from the state government,” Yadav said.

Khadki Cantonment Board CEO Manish Anand said: “We are in the process of making our CDP. Four top-priority projects of ours are sewage treatment plants, underground drainage, revamping of water supply lines and widening of Dr Ambedkar Road. The cost estimate might go to more than Rs 100 crore.”

Pune Cantonment Board Deputy President Aarti Mahajan said: “We can carry out many good and useful projects that are pending. A top priority of the PCB is to repair and replace the 100-year-old water supply line. The area also requires at least three flyovers. We are preparing cost estimates.” u00a0
