Sukhjit Kaur, a resident of Rurka Kalan village, said in her complaint that Sukhpal Singh of Kishanpura Model Town, settled in the Philippines, married her on February 12, 1999.

After the marriage, Sukhpal got Rs 3.5 lakh from her parents on the pretext of calling her early to Philippines but even after several years she was not called, Sukhjit alleged.

"My husband kept making lame excuses of global recession for not calling me to Philippines.

But I learnt later that he was married there and had two children, when a letter of an insurance policy in the name of his 'other family' fell in my hands," she said.

The mediator in the marriage Daljit Singh, also the younger brother of the NRI, has been arrested, police said.

A case under Sections 406 (breach of trust), 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife) of the IPC was registered against Sukhpal.u00a0
