Pathankot: Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced the death of an NSG officer, Lt. Col. Niranjan, saying he was killed in “mopping up operations” in Pathankot.

The minister did not give details of the death, but official sources said he was killed when a powerful explosion took place while he was trying to lift something in the air base.

Kumar's body will be brought back to his hometown near Pallakad in Kerala today for the last rites, a relative said yesterday.

May have used drug smugglers’ route

A route often used by drug smugglers was apparently followed by terrorists to infiltrate into the Punjab and unleash the deadly attack on an IAF base in Pathankot. The terrorists, who carried out the attack, had infiltrated through tributaries of river Beas in Pathankot in Bamiyal village, located close to the International Border.
