Family that owns German Bakery is banking on support from old customers in their efforts to rebuild popular cafe following the blast

Bhumika Chawla (27), a professional working at Koregaon Park, says other than the smell of freshly baked cakes, she will miss the regulars at the German Bakery who are no more.

Keep the faith
Smita Kharose, the proprietor of the bakery, feels blessed that she has the faith and support of her customers. Kharose, along her two daughters Snehal and Shratha and ailing son Aditya is maintaining a brave front. The family is united in its belief that they will revive the old flavour of the place.

Kharose is confident that with the support of the government they will rebuild the Bakery. "Whenever my sister and I told our friends that we owned the place, the first question they asked us in disbelief was how could a Maharashtrian family could run German Bakery. No one believed us. We had to assure them that we did indeed own the place,' said Kharose, who has run the cafu00c3u00a9 with her two daughters since the death of her husband Dnyaneshwar Narayan Kharose in 1999.

Kharose is concerned about her staff. "It's too early to say if they will be ready to come back to us," she said.
Dr Prashant Kulkarni, who was injured in the blast, as were his friend and aunt, added, "I am waiting to go back. Nothing can kill our spirit."

Harshad Pandit, a third-year student, of AISSMS, has been visiting the cafu00c3u00a9 for the last three years. "I hope the furniture, quality of food and service remain the same," said Pandit.
