New Delhi: A 40-year-old man, who was declared brain dead at the AIIMS here, has saved the lives of three people by donating his organs, including liver and kidneys, a top official of the hospital said on Thursday.

The patient - a resident of south Delhi - met with a road accident following which he was admitted to the trauma centre of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on August 11.

The patient was declared brain dead on August 13 after which doctors spoke to his family members and convinced them to donate the organs.

According to the doctors, the two kidneys and the liver were transplanted to three needy patients in the hospital.

"Our efforts have always been to increase the number of organ donations as much as possible. I am proud that AIIMS has been involved in such a noble cause. We are trying to make more and more people aware about organ donation," said AIIMS director M.C. Misra said.
