People living in area say youngsters party all night, create nuisance as eateries, bars remain open beyond deadline; despite repeated complaints, no action taken

Even after the city police imposed a 12.30 am deadline on all bars and eateries, rules are being flouted at Salunkhe Vihar and NIBM road, where residential societies are reportedly having a hard time dealing with the drunken, motorcycle-borne youth every night. The nuisance has deprived residents of their sleep and is keeping students preparing for their exams on tenterhooks.

Residents of the area say the droves of youth who come in cars or bikes, often in an inebriated state, gather at the eateries after 11 pm and create nuisance by shouting, playing loud music and honking relentlessly, which goes on till early morning.
"About 10 to 12 motorists come here every night and have made it a daily practice to create trouble in the area. They come on high-powered motorcycles, drink liquor and do all sorts of mischief till early morning. At times some couples even indulge in obscene behaviour. We have dispatched numerous letters to the police and even the corporator, but everybody has turned a blind eye toward this issue," said a resident, requesting anonymity.
Residents in a letter to the police stated that certain eateries in the area remain open beyond the deadline, adding to the disturbance, but the police on patrol never force them to shut down. They have further urged the higher police authorities to pass necessary instructions to the night patrol team to put an end to the nuisance.
MiD DAY has a copy of the letter. People from high-rise apartments such as Rose Building, Dorabjee Enclave, Brahma Angan, Kubera Garden, among others, even took up the matter with local corporator Tanaji Lonkar, who assisted them by informing the police, but it did not prove fruitful.
"When we approached Jashn restaurant owners who have been allowing them to park and play loud music, they said it was the police's job to evict them and not theirs," said another resident, also requesting anonymity.u00a0
Senior Police Inspector Prasad Hasabnis of Kondhwa police station said, "Our officers have been patrolling those areas since the past three years and have not reported any such thing. The residents should call us immediately and complain. They should come and see me in person, I'll see what can be done." Corporator Lonkar said, "I have done whatever I could for the residents and even approached the police. If the nuisance does not end we will approach the Police Commissioner."
