England middle order batsman Kevin Pietersen has revealed how he offered to be England's one-day captain last summer -- only to be snubbed in favour of Alastair Cook.

Reports at the time suggested Pietersen wasn't even-interviewed for the post despite making it clear to coach Andy Flower he wanted the role once Andrew Strauss had given it up.

According to The Mirror, KP, who was stripped of the top job in 2009, believed he had unfinished business with the England captaincy and was keen to make a better fist of it second time round.

But the selectors turned to Cook who had always been on the fringes of the one-day side.

"I would have done the job as captain again if need be," said Pietersen.

Pietersen's leadership qualities were given a bit of a kicking in Swann's recent autobiography, and although he doesn't think it was a clever move by the spinner, it shouldn't affect the England juggernaut in the series against Pakistan in the UAE.
