New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar and India-s female tennis star Sania Mirza all congratulated Leander Paes yesterday for winning the Australian Open mixed doubles title in Melbourne, partnering Swiss veteran Martina Hingis.

"Leander Paes continues to make us proud! I congratulate him on the mixed doubles win with Martina Hingis at the Australian Open," Modi wrote on Twitter.


Echoing the sentiment, President Mukherjee tweeted: "Congratulations to Leander Paes on the Mixed Doubles win at the Australian Open."


Tendulkar also took to Twitter to express his gratitude to 41-year-old Paes. "Congrats @Leander on a wonderful win at the @AustralianOpen , way to go," wrote Tendulkar.

India-s only female Grand Slam winner Sania also hailed Paes- longevity through her tweet: "Congratulations to Leander and @mhingis ?? 20+ yrs and rolling."
