Police raid, demolish illicit liquor den inside SGNP near Vihar Lake in Powai

Sanjay Gandhi National Park authorities along with officials from Powai police station and Excise Department conducted a raid inside SGNP near Vihar Lake and demolished an illicit liquor den on wee hours of Wednesday

Mumbai: The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) authorities along with officials from Powai police station and Excise Department conducted a raid inside the boundary of SGNP near Vihar Lake and demolished an illicit liquor den on wee hours of Wednesday.


However, no one got arrested in the operation as the people operating the den had gone underground even before the officials reached the spot.


Confirming the same an SGNP official said, “We had got a tip-off that there is an illegal liquor den that was operational in the forest premises near Vihar Lake in Powai. Acting on the tip-off, SGNP team along with Powai police team and Excise Department started the search operation inside the forest near Powai and we found an illegal liquor den that was operational. Before we could reach the spot, the people running it ran away.”


The teams have destroyed the den that was operational. The things that are used to make the liquor were recovered by the officials. The forest department team has now decided to increase the patrolling in the area so that it does not start again.

Speaking to mid-day an official from Powai police station said, “The action against the illegal liquor den inside the premises of SGNP near Vihar Lake was taken on the wee hours of Wednesday along with the Forest Department and Excise Department.”
