Police tell farmer to approach an astrologer to find stolen onions

Dhule: Sunil Patil, a farmer from Lonikhede village in Dhule district had the shock of his life when he heard the local police’s solution to find his stolen onions: contact an astrologer.

Around 40 bags, containing onions worth Rs 80,000, had been stolen from Patil’s farm. He had approached a local police outpost to file a complaint regarding the theft of his onions.

The police did not register his complaint, but instead accompanied him to his village to undertake a panchnama, a small, on the spot probe on the scene of the crime. “The police asked me whom I suspected to be behind the theft. Now, why would I approach the police if I had known who stole my onions," he said.

However, Dhule Superintendent of Police Sahebrao Patil, denied that the policemen on duty had asked the farmer to approach an astrologer. He said, “If it is proved after an inquiry that policemen did tell the farmer to go to an astrologer, they will be suspended immediately.”
